Do you feel as though you have the right to decide whether or not an abortion is okay? If you answered yes, I need you to answer one question for me:
- are you the pregnant person choosing abortion for yourself?
No? Then it’s none of your friking business.
Societies, past and present, have long allowed limitations on bodily autonomy for both the private and public good. Suicide is, strictly speaking, an exercise of bodily autonomy, but we don’t encourage it or sanction it as a moral good; in fact, we rightly spend quite a lot of money and resources discouraging and preventing that act.
Same goes for moral prohibitions (whether expressed through law or not) against consensual cannibalism, mutilation, or public nudity/exhibitionism.
